I'm a huge fan of "The Terminator" and other sci-fi movies with intricate special effects. One of my first experiments in computer generated effects was replicating the metallic morphing T-1000 using an Amiga computer in the very early 90s. Those experiments might have bolstered my portfolio and help get me into Emily Carr, but they sure wouldn't win any effects awards by any means.
It's important to keep your skills sharp, so using more modern software like Autodesk Maya, After Effects and Mocha Pro tracking software, I set out to replicate some cool robot eye effects. I started out with a crude shiny metal eyeball and moved forward with a more realistic (but still completely CGI) robot eye that also could fire laser blasts.
