As a kid I always dreamed of building my own boat! A buddy and I made an effort to build a model wood boat in grade 9. We weren't allowed to use fiberglass, so it was a tremendous failure. Even with 10 coats of paint it took on water and sunk in his pool within minutes.
It was with this haunting failure in mind that I started designing this model boat. Three feet long, made of plywood and coated in waterproof resin, it turned out better than I imagined. It also took longer to build than I imagined. I installed radio controlled gear and motors from a couple of old Radioshack RC speedboats and eventually tested it in False Creek. It was great to get that waterlogged monkey off my back.
